Renting a car with a foreign driver's license

If you have a foreign driver's license, you can use it to rent a car from KARAM, but you will need to follow some additional steps.

Firstly, when making your reservation, you will need to indicate that you have a foreign driver's license and upload it to your profile in KARAM. This is necessary for us to verify and confirm your ability to drive.

Additionally, you will need to ensure that you have all the necessary driving documents for Bulgaria. Depending on the country you come from, different documents may be required, such as an international driving permit. Carefully check the requirements and make sure you have everything you need before making the reservation.

There are two scenarios:

Your driver's license was issued by a country in the Schengen Area (EU + Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland): your driver's license is valid without any additional documents.

Your driver's license was issued outside the Schengen Area (Morocco, USA, Brazil, etc.). In this case, there are 3 scenarios:

a) You are in Bulgaria for less than 90 days You must provide at the beginning of the rental: Your original driver's license The page in your passport that has a stamp dating your entry into the country. For some countries (such as Canada), it is possible to travel to Bulgaria without a customs stamp. In this case, you must provide proof of residence to prove the date of entry into the country.

b) You are in Bulgaria for more than 90 days but less than a year You must provide at the beginning of the rental: Your original driver's license Visa giving you permission to stay on Bulgarian territory.

c) You are in Bulgaria for more than a year You must provide your Bulgarian driver's license: your foreign driver's license is no longer valid unless you have a student visa. In this case, your foreign driver's license is valid until the end of your studies. Then you must provide your student visa and your original driver's license.

When receiving the car, you will need to provide a copy of your foreign driver's license and any other necessary driving documents. Specify any restrictions or requirements for driving on your driver's license before signing the rental agreement.
